A GPS Watches Primer There are currently two manufacturers of GPS watches: Timex/Garmin and Suunto. Casio used to have one, but it's been discontinued. Timex/Garmin has a line of eight GPS watches. They are marketed as speed and distance systems for athletes - they do not provide location information. The speed and distance systems are composed of two parts: a GPS receiver and a watch that are wirelessly connected by a radio signal. The GPS receiver can be worn on the arm or clipped to a belt. Suggestions for Changing Watch Bands Why do the plastic bands crack after a year or two? Because nothing lasts forever. (A little humor.) Most of the bands on CASIO watches are made of polyurethane plastic. Polyurethane, like most plastics, is pretty dense and fairly waterproof- but no plastic is acid proof. The same acids and proteins in body sweat which corrodes jewelry and leather will (in time) take out all the moistures in the polyurethane plastic; leaving it shiny and brittle. Rough handling of the brittle plastic can break it easily. This is normal. Popular replacement bands are often made of polyvinyl plastic, which is very soft (and smells like your swimming pool). Is there an easy way to remove the spring loaded bar-pin? No. It is installed with such little access room to maximize support when the band is stressed. Most jewelers use a "band pin removing tool" or a very soft flat head driver to catch the spring loaded stem and pull it back enough for the band to clear the case's edge.
